September 2008
Dear RPCS Upper School,
Welcome to the 2008-2009 school year! With each new school year comes the opportunity to sign up for clubs. Clubs are student-run interest groups that meet one to two times a cycle. This year we have 16 new clubs for a total of 49 clubs in all! With so many exciting clubs available, I encourage everyone to take advantage of the great variety of clubs offered this year. There truly is something for everyone. Clubs are a great way to meet fellow students in all four grades with similar interests as you.
The beginning of school is also the time to try something new, so if you’ve had your eye on It’s Academic but have been too shy to join, or if you took a cool hip-hop class over the summer and want to show off your Justin Timberlake caliber skills in hip-hop squad, go for it! Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. You’ll never know if you like something until you try it.
In this booklet you will find descriptions of all the clubs available this year. If you’re not sure you want to join a certain club, not to worry! Everyone will have an opportunity to sample clubs during the “shopping period.” During this time, you may visit a club without proclaiming yourself an official member.
I urge you to keep in mind your previous commitments and obligations before devoting yourself to a club. While clubs are here for our enjoyment, they are a commitment and you will be expected to attend all meetings unless told otherwise by the club leaders.
I hope you all find this booklet helpful and are just as excited about our clubs this year as I am! See you at the club fair!
Sincerely,
Julia Osterman ‘09
Your SGA President
