Welcome back! We have talked about what cyberbullying is, how it makes people feel and what the consequences that can come from being a cyberbully or a victim of cyberbullying. We have also discussed how we can prevent cyberbullying. Today, we will discuss how you can stand up against cyberbullying if a friend wants you to participate in cyberbullying someone.
Last time we met, you created two word clouds. Take them out of your folders.

What words did you come up with when you described how having good friends makes you feel? Share them with your neighbor. What words did you come up with to describe how a bully behaves? Share them with your neighbor. You have five minutes.
So, did you have some of the same words for both word clouds? Probably not. That's because a good friend should not make you feel the same way a bully makes you feel. Friends can have disagreements, good friends solve it without becoming a bully.
Lets discuss this point some more. So if a friend is making you feel like a bully makes you feel or is doing the same behaviors a bully does, then he/she isn't acting like a true friend to you. But....what does it mean to bully someone? There are two types of bullying: direct and indirect. Cyberbullying is a type of indirect bullying. Click on the video below and follow along in class as we discuss the differences between the two types of bullying.
Now, that you have learned about the two types of bullying, you will be broken up into groups and you will be working on an activity together. Even though you are working in groups, each person in the group must write down her answers on her individual paper. You have ten minutes to complete this activity.

Terrific job! So if you see a cyberbullying incident you should speak up. As we saw from the above activity, sometimes speaking up can be an uncomfortable thing to do. Let's discuss strategies you can use to help make an uncomfortable situation a little easier. Click on the link below. This site is like a virtual bulletin board. To add feedback to this board type in one strategy you can use to cope with the uncomfortable situation provided on the page.
