Barrie Sigler, Head of Lower School,
welcomes you to the Lower School!
The Roland Park Country Lower School lays strong academic foundations while providing the warm and nurturing environment in which a child thrives. In addition, it provides a wealth of opportunities for the girls to grow artistically, athletically, and intellectually.
The school is devoted to the teaching of reading, phonics, grammar, punctuation and the craft of writing. In addition to these skills, our girls learn how to think and to value and to build upon their natural curiosity. They are stretched and challenged to think outside of a simple answer. Considering and debating open-ended questions, creative investigation, inferential thinking, and problem solving are encouraged throughout the curriculum. As well, intellectual thinking is extended and enhanced by a math program which gives the students many opportunities to solve complex problems, explore multiple facets of math, and reach beyond the obvious while developing computation competence at developmentally appropriate stages. The school embraces the importance of technology and actively seeks to integrate it into the curriculum at all grade levels.

Aligned with the academic and intellectual program are opportunities for girls to explore and develop in artistic and athletic ways. Physical education, dance, art, and music provide outlets for expression, the development of discipline, and the enhancement of self-esteem
The atmosphere surrounding the education of the Lower School child is one of warmth, acceptance, and community. The children are supported as individuals, and each one is encouraged to reach her intellectual and personal potential. At the Roland Park Lower School, the girls develop the confidence, competence, and love of learning which they take with them as they move to higher levels of education. |
