Physical Education is required for all students, K-12 with classes scheduled for students in grades K-10. In preparation for life after RPCS, Juniors and Seniors may choose how they will fulfill their requirement. Seniors can fulfill their Physical Education requirement in the following ways:
Independent Study in the Fitness Center (Not Applicable to 2007-2008 School Year)
To complete an independent study, students must complete 30 sessions per semester, with each session lasting 45-60 minutes. Sessions that last longer on the same day will still only count for one session. This is to encourage students to exercise on a regular basis rather than trying to cram their sessions into a smaller number of days just to meet the requirement.
The student will need to "sign in" the Fitness Center binder which is located just outside the Fitness Center door in the gym hallway. She will also need to keep her own personal activity chart up to date and in the 12th Grade folder, located in the filing cabinet also in the gym hallway. These will be checked once a cycle to see if the student has completed at least three sessions per cycle. Failure to do so will result in a detention.
Off Campus Activities
If a student is fulfilling her PE requirement by participating in an off-campus activity, she needs to keep a personal log (sheets can be obtained in the PE office) and every session completed must be initialed by her supervisor prior to turning it in to me every day 1. This supervisor may be a parent or someone in charge of the program you are participating in.
Managing a Sport
Students may also "earn" sessions in her Independent Study or Off Campus Activity by being a team manager. The number of sessions earned will be determined by how frequently the managing takes place, but will not count for more than 50% of her requirement.
