March is the time, early though it may seem, to start thinking about classes for next year. The Curriculum Guide is available on line to you and your daughter (go to www.rpcs.org, then to Academics, Curriculum, Upper School) Juniors will receive a course sign-up sheet prior to Spring Break and will be meeting with her advisor to look at what her options are for next year. Freshmen and Sophomores will meet with their advisors after Spring Break and look ahead for the next year, and even during the following years. Please take time to read the Curriculum Guide yourself so that you are familiar with the incredible array of courses we offer here at Roland Park. This curriculum speaks to the talent, knowledge and creativity of our outstanding faculty as well as to the benefit of coordination for the older students. The course sign-up sheet must be signed by you as well as by the student's advisor so please feel free to be in touch with your daughter's advisor (or me) with any questions you have. AP courses and some others require permission from the department and from parents for admission in the course. We want girls to be appropriately placed in their courses and stretch where appropriate, but we also want everyone informed about what is involved in these highly demanding courses. Please note that course sign-up sheets are due back to the office on March 28th for current juniors. Due to the complexity of scheduling for the seniors from all three schools, this schedule information must come in earlier than that from the current 9s and 10s (schedule selection sheets due by April 7th.)
Looking ahead, Grandparents Day is April 4th, from 8:30-11:30. Invitations are sent directly to the grandparents. If you have listed your daughter’s grandparents’ names and addresses on the general information sheet over the summer, they will receive invitations. If you did not, or are not sure, please call Merrie Harrington in the Upper School office with their names and addresses so that we can extend an invitation to them. Please let grandparents know that there is parking for them on campus as we ask faculty and staff to park off campus that day to free up spaces for them.
Parents of seniors: it is not too early to begin to look for a long white dress for Commencement. Please remember that the dress must be floor length and all white (not ivory or ecru.) The ceremony is in the morning so please avoid a strapless dress.
