Dear Parents,
February is a fickle month. Sometimes it’s warm and almost like spring; sometimes it’s when we get our largest snowstorms. Whatever the weather is, please make sure your daughter is dressed to be outside. Unless it’s below 20 degrees or raining, we will be playing outside.
Parent-Daughter Square Dance: If your daughter is in the Third, Fourth, or Fifth Grade, please be sure to come to the annual Square Dance on February 29 at 7:00. Beverages will be provided, but it would be lovely if you would bring a treat to share. Casual or western dress is appropriate, but please do not wear boots that will damage the floor. This year it will be held in the Dining Room.
Lunch on February 12th On February 12th, the Dining Hall will be closed for a special event. Please send your daughter with a complete lunch that day. She will need her regular snack as well.
Valentine’s Day Valentine’s Day is such fun in the Lower School! On that day, the girls may wear red shirts and socks with their uniforms, and there will be parties in the afternoon. In order that every girl has a happy time and feels good, please make sure that your daughter includes a valentine for everyone in her homeroom or in her grade. Also see that she does not include special cards or candy for certain people. We don’t want anyone to feel left out or excluded, particularly on this day that celebrates friendship and caring. The LS Parent Network has also asked that the girls only bring cards for each other. Attaching candy or other treats produces competition and a lot more preparation. Simple cards for everyone is the order of the day!
Absences from School No matter how well your child makes up work after an absence, there is no substitute for the time she spends in class. Not only does she miss the content, but even more importantly, she misses the instruction, the exploration, and the interaction with teachers and students. For instance, memorizing facts at home will never be as meaningful to her as discovering the same material on her own or with her classmates.
Sometimes absences are unavoidable as in the case of sickness or accident; however, to keep a child out of school to go on vacation is doing her a great disservice. Please do everything you possibly can to plan family trips and vacations for the times that school is not in session. However, if your child must be away for some reason, please remember to discuss it ahead of time with her teachers and with me.
How much we appreciate your support and interest in all that we are doing here at school! I always enjoy seeing you here for your daughter’s activities and presentations. Come often!
