Dear Parents,
The start of a new semester is a good time for students to reflect on the work they have done and to set goals for what they would like to accomplish. As preparation for the conferences on February 8th, your daughters will do reflection and goal setting activities in advisory. Your daughters should think about their successes and what “worked” so they can apply those methods to other situations. Although they might want to forget about the areas where they struggled, it is important to reflect on those circumstances also. One of the hardest things to do is to learn from our mistakes. Every struggle is an opportunity for growth. Your daughter will share those thoughts at the parent conference next week where you will also receive your daughter’s report card. If you haven’t already done so, please contact Kate Feiring (feiringk@rpcs.org or 410-323-5500) to set up your conference time for February 8th.
Please make a note of the important February dates and the information below.

February 15th: Brown Bag Lunch
On February 15th the Alumnae Association hosts a luncheon for all RPCS alumnae mothers, grandmothers, great-grandmothers, and aunts and their RPCS student in all grades. It is a special time for those with family ties to connect and enjoy being together at their school. For students who do not have alumnae connections, please make sure that they brown bag their lunch that day as the Dining Hall is closed.
February 13th: US Parent Network Meeting
Please note that the US Parent Network Meeting originally scheduled for February 7th has been moved to Monday, February 13th.
Looking Forward: College Counseling 101 for 9th Grade Parents Rescheduled for Monday, March 12th
A second session of College Counseling 101 for 9th grade parents has been scheduled for Monday, March 12th at 7:30 p.m. in the Faissler Library. For parents who missed the first session held in October, this program is designed to introduce you to the college search process at RPCS. Leigh Martin Lowe, Director of College Counseling, and Janet Weller, Assistant Director of College Counseling, will give you an overview of what lies ahead for your daughter and how we help her navigate the process. Phil Pine, Program Director of Capital Educators, will also be there to talk about standardized testing. If you attended the session in October, it is not necessary for you to attend this upcoming program too.
Inclement Weather
Winter will be upon us soon so please note that in the case of inclement weather, RPCS coordinates with Gilman and Bryn Mawr regarding decisions to close school or open late. Weather related decisions will be called in to WBAL (1090 AM) by 6:15 a.m. and will be posted on the first page of the RPCS website at http://www.rpcs.org. The decision to close school early will be made in conjunction with Bryn Mawr and Gilman and will be announced on WBAL-AM as soon as a decision is made. As soon as the decision is made, it will also be on the school’s website as well as on the recording at school prior to the opening of the switchboard. Please remember that the decision to open on time or late is not always the right decision for everyone depending upon where you live and the weather and road conditions there. Make the best decision for your child, and of course, if you choose to keep her home, call or email Mrs. Feiring to inform her.
